Faith Formation

The mission of the faith formation program of Saint Marguerite Bourgeoys is to lead the youth of our parish “out of” the false promises of the world and to the glorious promises of our Lord Jesus Christ as taught for 2000 years in our Roman Catholic Faith. Achieving this required serious commitment and cooperation among priests, catechists, and families.

Priests must constantly encourage and make available the reception of the sacraments, especially Confession and Eucharist. Catechists must teach the pure doctrines of the Faith without compromise. Parents must work to integrate in their children the doctrines of Catholicism through love, regular Sunday Mass attendance, family prayer and by example.

Program Structure

Faith Formation Classes are for children in grades 1-9. Classes are offered Sundays, 9:30-10:30 A.M., and Mondays, 6:15-7:15 P.M., September through May. Our youth are educated in the Catholic Catechism and Christian values. First Communion is received in 2nd grade. Confirmation is received in 9th grade.

All children, regardless of age are expected to attend Mass every Sunday as directed in the Ten Commandments and the precepts of the Catholic Church. Class schedule follows the Brookfield Public Schools. Extra classes are held for those preparing for the sacraments.

Admissions Policy
Admission is available to any parishioners’ children who are Catholic and attend Mass regularly. It is imperative that all children being registered are brought to Sunday Mass regularly. If information leads us to believe otherwise, parents will be contacted.

Registration begins in May and continues through the summer. However, we ask each family to register in May or as soon as possible to allow for classroom planning and ordering of books.

Arrival Procedure
Children in grades 1 – 6 will go directly into the church and sit with the class for ATTENDANCE and a church lesson. PLEASE BE PROMPT!
7TH AND 8TH GRADERS GO DIRECTLY TO ROOM 1 FOR ATTENDANCE AND CLASS.

Dismissal Procedure
IF YOU HAVE A FIRST, SECOND, OR THIRD GRADER, PLEASE PARK YOUR CAR AND WAIT IN THE NARTHEX TO PICK HIM OR HER UP.
Grades 4 – 5 – 6 will wait on the sidewalk under cover (unless temperatures become too extreme and we will contact you). Parents will drive into the circle and child will proceed to the car for pick up. If you have a younger child, you must come to pick him/her up and should pick up your older one at the same time.
Grades 7-8: 7th and 8th Graders will proceed directly to parents’ cars.

Attendance Policy

Proper religious education can only occur with regularity of attendance. Children must not miss more than 4 classes during the year, especially when it is a sacrament year. Make ups with the individual teacher can be arranged; however, more than 4 absences will require a review by the Director of Religious Education.

Cancellation of Class

Monday nights follow the Brookfield public schools; no school, no religious education. If there is school and bad weather ensues late in the day, the church may be called. Sunday morning cancellations will be announced on the local television stations and also the church may be called.
