Today we celebrate all mothers, and we wish a Happy Mother’s Day to all! As Catholics, we are triply-blessed: we have our own physical mothers, Jesus has given us the Blessed Virgin Mary as our spiritual mother, and we refer to the Catholic Church herself as “Holy Mother Church.” Good things come in threes in the Church! We remember in a special way all of the sacrifices that our mothers have made and continue to make for us. As mothers will often say, every day is actually Mother’s Day!
We also remember the greatest responsibility that mothers and fathers share in raising their children: to ensure as much as possible that their home is a domestic church so that parents will provide for not only the physical needs of the family, but most especially, for their children’s spiritual needs. As Jesus Himself said in the Gospel, what does it profit the man to gain the whole world but end up losing his soul? Parents set the proper priorities in the household, and to all those mothers and fathers who consistently do so by placing God in the center of your families, we congratulate you and continue to pray for your perseverance in a culture today that desires to ignore God except when He becomes convenient. We pray for all of our mothers, including many single mothers who have to carry the responsibilities of the household and family alone, grandmothers, godmothers, and mother-figures on this very special weekend!
May you have a most blessed and holy week!

Prayer for our mothers on Mother’s Day
Mary, Mother of God, we ask you on this Mother’s Day to pray for our own dear mothers.
May your Son, Jesus, reward them for all they have so lovingly given us over the years.
May He give them peace of heart for all the time they have soothed us in times of trouble or failure.
May Jesus give them joy of heart and spirit for all the times they have healed our wounds and wiped away our tears.
We ask you, most Blessed Mary, on this day when we honor and praise our mothers for their unconditional love and care, that Jesus might bestow on them His choicest blessings and His deepest love. Amen.
Prayer for mothers for their family
(St. Monica, the patron saint of mothers)
O Lord, who taught St. Monica to sacrifice and to persevere for the good of her family, especially for the conversion of her son, St. Augustine, help me to be a good parent to my children.
Help me to have patience with them when they misbehave and give me the strength to guide them gently yet firmly on the right path.
Permit me always to forgive their misdeeds and keep me from speaking harshly or punishing unwisely.
Help me to be a beacon of goodness for them as they grow to adulthood and to be a good example to them in all that I say and do. Amen.
